The
Result
The planning task comprised two areas: the renovation of the existing buildings and the expansion through a new building. Various modifications were necessary in the existing buildings, and the new building was intended to create additional teaching space.
The existing buildings, dating from the 1950s, were in need of renovation. In addition to replacing the original windows and refinishing the interior surfaces, the technical systems required modernization.
The equipment was outdated: the plumbing was prone to damage, and the electrical system was unusable. Standards to be considered during the planning phase included accessibility, the building standards of the state capital Düsseldorf, and all relevant regulations and guidelines for school buildings.
The three-story, single-bay new building housed the specialist classrooms and additional regular classrooms. The design featured a rectangular structure connected to the main building of the existing complex.
