About the
Project
This residential townhouse project developed on the site of the former Old Slaughterhouse in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin.
Instead of continuing Berlin’s traditional perimeter-block housing model, the project introduces inner-city townhouses, combining ground-level access, private outdoor spaces, and multi-storey domestic layouts within a metropolitan context.

The
Result
Architecturally, the project is defined by its integration of historic fragments from the former slaughterhouse complex. Only portions of the original industrial structures—most notably the brick gable walls of the former cattle stables—could be preserved.
Rather than reconstructing the historic buildings in their entirety, these elements were restored and embedded into the new residential architecture, where they function as spatial and symbolic anchors.
The result is not a literal conservation project but a form of interpretive continuation, in which traces of the site’s industrial past remain legible within a contemporary residential environment.
